The Ventures’ Walk Don’t Run; When Instrumentals Were Fun!

No technology, just their “axes”; music just challenging enough to grow on, simple enough to emulate. This tune was played at every jam, house party and was in every record collection.

The Ventures’ Walk Don’t Run (composed by Johnny Smith), was a tune with an arrangement that we could put together; it had a drum intro, a real melody and an ending. We never got sick of playing it!

If you listen to the over all feel, they really can’t make up their mind; to swing or not to swing, that is the question! So click and let’s do this…

We were, of course, THE garageband generation.* We started the whole three chord, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, lead guitar and drum thing. Looking back to the music of those times, things seemed to be less complicated but, our desire to get proficient was insatiable. Those of us who couldn’t keep up with the skill needed for the evolving music, simply dropped off the radar. Me? Well, I just couldn’t get enough! Things haven’t changed!
